The world of the interior design magazine presents a very one-sided view of domestic interiors. Largely unpeopled spaces where everything has been carefully considered and placed. It is an idealised world without the normal trappings on everyday life. There are no untidy power cables littering the floor, no unopened envelop from the tax office or spilt bread crumbs from the toast. Frozen and impossible moments in a fantasy time or unlived life. These are layers and images of an unlived life, but one that is suggested we should aspire to.
This series of paintings plays into this illusionism, trompe l’oeil deceptions and non existent photo album pages hinting at a life lived, but in truth, one that never was.
